ABOUT DR. STEPH
Stephanie started as a chiropractic patient at age 12. She suffered low back pain and headaches almost weekly. It wasn't until early adulthood, working as an assistant in a chiropractic office, that she observed miracles on a daily basis. After receiving regular chiropractic care her symptoms subsided. This inspired Stephanie to pursue her passion by helping people through chiropractic care. She moved from her native San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area to begin a post-graduate program at Life Chiropractic College West.
She quickly became involved, serving on several mission trips internationally and locally to provide free chiropractic care to thousands of families in need. Stephanie's academic accolades include Student of the Year 2012, Intern of the Quarter, Intern of the Month and Clinical Honors. A love for Southern California prompted her to return to San Diego where she joined Libs Chiropractic Center in Pacific Beach. After two years her practice expanded due to the high number of referrals from other patients and she moved into a larger office to open the Cafe of Life San Diego in the heart of Pacific Beach. Her focus is pediatric, pregnancy and family care, and her philosophy is to honor the intelligence within each of us and to create a greater connection within the body, the community and the world.
Stephanie maintains active membership with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and is certified in the Webster Prenatal Technique. She is heavily involved with the chiropractic community and has served on the local and state executive board of the California Chiropractic Association. The CCA awarded her Outstanding New DC of the Year in 2014 for California. She also supports the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations and the Australian Spinal Research Foundation. She passionately founded and runs a local monthly meeting of chiropractors who study and discuss relevant chiropractic topics, ethics, philosophy and science.
In October 2016 she and her husband Dean welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Aubree into the world, and in September 2018 they welcomed a son, Roland. She is enjoying her time as a new mother and is slowly increasing her time back at work while doing her best to maintain a balance at home. Dean, Aubree and Rols can be found hanging out at the office every so often, greeting people before and after their visits.
Dr. Carliana Carpenter or Dr. CC as we call her here at Cafe of Life, is an Ocean Beach native who is ecstatic to have recently moved back to the beach from the Bay Area. The minute she started her doctorate program at Life West Chiropractic College, Dr. CC knew that she wanted to work with families and specialize in pregnancy and pediatrics. Dr. CC has had many pediatric patients in her clinic and worked with an abundance of kiddos while traveling to Malinalco, Mexico and Mumbai, India on Chiropractic Mission trips. She is a member of the ICPA and is continuously involved in postdoctoral pediatric and pregnancy training. Dr. CC is so excited to join the Cafe of Life community and cannot wait to work with all of the wonderful families.
ABOUT CAFE OF LIFE
The Cafe of Life was started by Arno Burnier, DC in Colorado and has expanded all over the world. He serves as the inspiration for Cafe of Life San Diego and as a mentor for Stephanie. We call it the "Cafe of Life" because chiropractic is about life and enjoying it to the fullest.
The Cafe of Life is a unique concept. It is a structure that provides an environment to practice Vitalistic Chiropractic. It is a model of practice that is congruent with Chiropractic Philosophy and Principles.
A Cafe of Life is, first and foremost, an internal state of being held by the Chiropractor. This state of being arises from deep core values, profound internal work and self-healing at the core level, as well as solid Chiropractic Philosophical foundations. All this is combined with a desire to serve humanity from the heart with masterful skills and passion.
The Cafe of Life model has its own linguistic related to Chiropractic, well-being and vitalism. It has a specific practice consciousness and inner management system. Ultimately, it is based on trust in life; trust in one’s self and belief in the self-determination, self-responsibility and self-accountability of the human spirit.
